Pfizer Inc. is a leading global pharmaceutical and biotechnology company dedicated to discovering, developing, and delivering innovative medicines and vaccines that improve lives. Founded in 1849 and headquartered in New York City, Pfizer has a long history of pioneering breakthroughs in healthcare, addressing some of the world’s most pressing medical challenges. Pfizer is renowned for its contributions to public health, including the development of life-saving vaccines, most notably its mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. Beyond medicine, Pfizer emphasizes corporate responsibility, sustainability, and global health equity, striving to make high-quality healthcare accessible to all.

Globally, there has been a rush towards adopting Generative AI for creative technological solutions, and Pfizer is no different. The development of Generative AI in 2014 and Large Language Models in 2017 has allowed AI to evolve into a useful research tool as well as to simplify common human tasks to enhance efficiency. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare has continued to face challenges, including staffing shortages, patient non-compliance monitoring, a lack of cultural representation amongst key leaders, and public distrust of medical science. Hence, Pfizer has partnered with KGI to guide a team of students to develop a use case for AI integration in Pfizer’s business and clinical solution platforms. Given a pre-established AI prototype at Pfizer, the students developed the language, knowledge/data sources, and tasks to lessen the work burden on Pfizer’s staff. During this highly creative yet closely supervised project by Pfizer, KGI students were able to gain real-world experience in an emerging world of AI.
