The Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) is a globally recognized organization dedicated to advancing pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing science, quality, and regulation. PDA provides industry-leading scientific and technical resources, facilitating collaboration between manufacturers, regulators, and academia to drive innovation and best practices in pharmaceutical quality management.

PDA has developed a Quality Culture Assessment Tool to evaluate Quality Management Maturity (QMM) within the pharmaceutical industry. Over the past decade, data has been collected from various companies to assess how factors such as location, business function, product classification, and company size influence QMM outcomes.

This TMP project, in collaboration with the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), aimed to analyze ten years of Quality Culture Assessment Tool data to identify trends in Quality Management Maturity (QMM) within the pharmaceutical industry. By examining factors such as location, business function, product classification, and company size, the study seeked to understand how these variables influence QMM outcomes and overall quality culture. The project involved organizing and analyzing blinded benchmarking data, followed by a detailed statistical assessment to identify significant trends. A literature review provided context by comparing findings with existing research on industry best practices. Additionally, the team designed and disseminated a questionnaire to gather further insights into the PDA QMM program. Findings from this research were written up as a manuscript and submitted to a peer-reviewed journal and were presented at PDA Week. The project’s goal was to analyze QMM assessment methodologies and offer actionable recommendations for improving quality culture across the industry, ensuring a more proactive and resilient approach to pharmaceutical quality management.
