Amgen is a biotechnology leader headquartered in Thousand Oaks, California, dedicated to leveraging cutting-edge biology and technology for disease treatment. Established in 1980, Amgen has been a driving force in groundbreaking medical discoveries. With a core focus on delivering life-changing medicines through a patient-centered lens, Amgen has been committed to pioneering new drugs that address unmet medical needs. Amgen is interested in improving patient engagement, satisfaction, and outcomes across biologic pen injectors and autoinjectors. The KGI team was tasked with investigating the current landscape of drug devices and generating actionable and innovative solutions to stay ahead of industry trends.

The team used publicly available information as well as resources provided by the Claremont Colleges Library to conduct an in depth-analysis of 68 combination product drugs. The team employed content analysis, assigning multiple variables to quantify the user-friendliness of patient education websites and product characteristics. The team has subsequently provided a prototype of a patient-engagement website based on benchmarking the best practices and consulting research findings in the domain. Finally, the KGI team successfully offered a series of innovative recommendations based on the design thinking framework, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies (such as AI and augmented reality) for Amgen to improve its patient experience over the next 10 years.
